The kingdom of God is supposed to be our focus. We live to make the work that Jesus did on the cross famous. A divided body breaks our Father’s heart. It shouldn’t matter where we worship or assemble, the spotlight is on Christ. Competition is destructive to spiritual growth. Our Father doesn’t want me to be competitive against my sisters in Christ, nor does he want one church to be competitive against the other. As we continue to posture our hearts toward walking in love, we have to keep Jesus’ sacrifice our main thing… nothing else really matters in the scheme of things.
Points to Ponder:
- Understand what the word of God says about preeminence by reading and studying Colossians 1:18
- In what ways have you, intentionally or unintentionally, made other things or yourself preeminent?
- Understand the origin of a competitive spirit by reading and reflecting on Isaiah 14:12-15
- What action can you take to ensure that Jesus, not your agenda or fame, remains the central focus?
